Shopify or Custom Code: What I Use and When

When Shopify settings are enough. And when a small piece of custom Liquid earns its place.

Shopify or Custom Code: What I Use and When

Growing stores often overbuild. Founders hear they need complex setups before they have steady sales to support them.

What Shopify already handles

Shopify covers a lot out of the box. With native Shopify Markets, local currencies and clean checkout, most stores can sell widely without extra upkeep.

I add custom Liquid only where it earns a place. Often that means:

  • Comparison tables shoppers can scan
  • Simple bundlers with clear discounts
  • Unboxing videos tucked into the page
  • Small mobile touches that keep pages tidy

Speed stays first

Every script and app slows pages a little. I keep Liquid clean and use a light setup with tools like Klaviyo, GA4 and Meta Pixel. The shop stays fast and feels cared for.
